This video clip of Roan (14 months) demonstrates the mixture of abilities you see in a toddler who has recently learend to stand with hand support for balance and is starting to step sideways.
Reaching up, back and to the side
Roan is able to reach to the right, with weight transference to extend her reach.

She also reaches up with effective weight shift to maintain balance.

She is less confident reaching to the left.

Roan reaches down to the right
Knee flexion is limited, especially on the left

Roan has started to step sideways.
Sometime she uses a high step and goes up onto her toes.

Roan stands up through half kneeling
Notice that she has difficulty flexing the hip to bring the foot forwards as she transitions from kneeling to standing.

Roan sit down by falling backwards
She does this in a fairly controlled manner, often taking a step to reposition herself before sitting down.
